Hello!
Several months ago, I heard your album COMPENSATION FOR THE SOUND OF SILENCE!
I think this is one of the best albums in 2009! Many critics have appreciated your album "10"!
What do you think about this? Did you compensate for 4 years of silence? I listen to you recently ... and I wonder ... what caused a break in 4 years???
Thanks for the message. We've been receiving an amazing response from this record, far better than we had anticipated. So we're very happy about it.
As for my break in writing, that's a bit of a loaded question. After the release of Contra, I had a massive server crash and lost most of the record. So in order to perform live I needed to reconstruct almost everything. It took months. My band mate at the time also had other important commitments in his life, so in the end we didn't end up touring or performing much at all, which was very disappointing. Then, in early 2007, my Mother passed away very suddenly, which was devastating to me. It took me several months, but I eventually began work on the new record later that year. All in all, it took two years to complete and release the record. So if you put all that together, 4 years passed pretty quickly. I had been hoping to start on a new record fairly quickly now. But we hope to be touring much more next year so that could be put on hold for a little while. We'll see what happens.
Thank you for your compliments on my new record. It was a very difficult and emotional record to write, so it means a lot to me when I receive messages from people like you.

Why have you chosen this cover?
As for the cover, it is a heavily manipulated photo that a friend of mine took. I was looking for an image that accurately portrayed the chaos involved in writing and creating a new record, especially when one is so out of practice. This image reminded me of a nervous system, as if stemming from a spine. It seemed appropriate given the nature of creative flow - starting small and growing over time like a snowball being pushed down a hill or branches stemming from a tree. I also just thought it looked cool ; )
